2020 Sutterhome Build a Burger Contest $30,000 Prize
Happy Apple Day Swiss Burger
This Burger recipe was the winner of the 2020 Sutterhome build a better burger contest The Grand prize was $30,000 won by Susan M. The burger incorporates Braeburn apple and Gruyere cheese.
Ingredients
Burger
- 2 pounds grass fed, organic ground beef
- 1 Braeburn apple, peeled, cored and finely chopped
- 9 ounces Gruyere cheese, thinly sliced
- 6 prosciutto, thinly sliced
- 2 teaspoons kosher salt
- 1 1/2 teaspoons cracked black pepper
- 6 brioche buns, toasted
- 3 braeburn apples, cored and thily sliced
Celebration Sauce
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1/4 cup Sutter Home Moscato
- 1 Tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1/4 cup shallot, finely chopped
- 1 garlic clove, mashed
- 1/4 teaspoon white pepper
Instructions
Burger
- Gently mix ground beef, 2 teaspoons kosher salt, 1 finely chopped Braeburn apple and 1 ½ teaspoons fresh cracked pepper
- Divide burger mixture into 6 equal portions, and divide each of those into 2 more portions (12 total) then flatten out to about 3 ½-inches
- Place 1 folded up piece of prosciutto and ½ ounce slice Gruyere cheese on 6 patties and mold the top patty onto filled patty, pinching sides to seal well
- Cook burgers on prepared grill on medium-high heat for approximately 5 minutes on the first side then flip
- Place cheese on the burgers and cook for another 5 to 8 minutes when cheese is melted or until desired doneness
- Toast buns slightly
Celebration Sauce:
- Whisk all sauce ingredients together – then set aside
Assemble:
- Slather sauce on bun and place apple slices and patty on top then add top bun – serve and enjoy!
